EVIDENCE LOG — compiled by Mira Chen-Wallace, age 11

Entry 1: Gran knew the phone was going to ring before it rang. She said "that'll be your uncle" before it started. It was Uncle David. Suspicious.

Entry 2: The plants on Gran's windowsill are enormous and have never been watered in my presence. They have been the same size for nine years. Normal plants do not do this.

Entry 3: Gran has a black cat called Mr. Something whose actual name she refuses to state fully. She says: "He knows his own name." Mr. Something stares at walls.

Entry 4: Gran predicted rain for Tuesday. There was no rain forecast. It rained on Tuesday.

Entry 5: I asked Gran directly. She said: "What an imagination." This is neither confirmation nor denial. Classic deflection.

Entry 6: Found a jar in her pantry labelled "for difficult Tuesdays." Asked what was in it. She said: "Rosemary, mostly." The mostly is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

Entry 7: Gran fixed my headache by putting her hand on my head and humming something I didn't recognise. The headache went immediately. I have looked up every medical explanation. None are satisfying.

Entry 8: Asked Mum. Mum laughed for approximately four minutes. This is also not a denial.

CONCLUSION: The evidence is substantial. Further investigation required.

However. Gran also makes the best soup I have ever tasted, never forgets my birthday, and told me last week that I was going to be fine.

I believed her immediately.

Whatever she is, I think she's on my side.
