Ember the dragon was supposed to be fierce.
But when she was sleepy, instead of breathing fire, she breathed long, warm, smoky yawns.
YAAAAWN — a gentle puff of warm smoke drifted across the cave.
The other dragons pretended not to notice.
"I'm not tired," said Ember. She yawned so hard her ears went flat.
YAAAAWN — another cloud of smoke.
Her cave was warm. Her stone bed had a soft mossy cushion. The sound of rain was pattering on the rocks outside.
Ember sat down — just for a moment.
Her eyes grew heavy.
YAAAAWN.
She curled her tail around herself, tucked her nose under her wing, and fell fast asleep.
Little puffs of warm smoke floated up to the cave ceiling, soft as sighs.
Dragons, it turns out, sleep just like you do.
