Ellie the elephant and Marco the mouse were best friends.
Everyone thought it was strange.
"You're too big," said the other elephants. "You're too small," said the other mice.
But Ellie and Marco didn't mind.
When Marco couldn't reach the fruit at the top of the tree, Ellie lifted him up. When Ellie dropped her favourite pebble down a tiny hole, Marco crawled in and fetched it back.
They made each other laugh. They looked after each other. They shared their snacks.
"Friends don't have to match," said Marco one day, sitting on top of Ellie's enormous head.
Ellie nodded happily. "No," she said. "They just have to fit."
