At the edge of the meadow, a little rabbit sat all alone.
The other animals were playing. But the rabbit didn't know how to ask to join.
A hedgehog walked by. She stopped.
"Why are you sitting all alone?" she asked.
"I don't know how to ask," said the rabbit quietly.
"I'll teach you," said the hedgehog. "You just say: can I play too?"
The rabbit took a deep breath. "Can I... can I play too?"
The hedgehog smiled. "Of course! Come on!"
And the rabbit ran into the meadow, her ears bouncing, her heart very full.
It was the easiest hard thing she had ever done.
